"RICE PAPER CUT" TRAY
2nd Place: RICE PAPER CUT by Beatrice Verga and Riccardo Stefano Bonetti
" For its ability to tackle the design theme, interpreting the transition in scale by exploring finishes typical of the world of architecture and translating them into the world of objects, we declare the “Rise Paper Cut” project the runner-up. Like a typical architectural construction site gesture, such as pouring concrete into wooden formwork, the creation of this tray also recalls the link between the two worlds of architecture and design, united in a common design finesse, which meet in the “food territory”. This project also highlights the manual gesture of gripping; in the area where the hands rest, the surface rises, becoming one with the person offering the dish. Thus, design, food, and customer find themselves on the same level, in perfect harmony. "

Architect Fabio Daglio will be president of the jury for the first competition for emerging designers in collaboration with the CEMENT DESIGN brand, a long-standing leader in eco-cement coverings, during FUORISALONE 2019.
The theme of the competition, conceived and curated by #FOODDESIGNSTORIES architect Sandra Faggiano and journalist Caterina Misuraca, was the reinterpretation of the TRAY element. The aim was to decontextualize the usual use of concrete and simultaneously open new creative avenues. Thus, the crossover occurs precisely between the worlds of design and food.
