It will be a Christmas of distance and distance. A Christmas among a few close relatives and with the lights on. It will certainly be a more intense and poetic Christmas.
A fairytale Christmas in the countryside will be our friends Riccardo and Beatrice's. A duo in their professional lives—he's a journalist, she's an architect and designer, working together at Studio Bonver Design, and together in their private lives—who, during the lockdown, resiliently conceived and brought to life a one-of-a-kind project: a new studio in a wonderful ruin (a former chicken coop), restored and made accessible through a reinterpretation that respects the existing history of the old abandoned spaces while regenerating them with a new, contemporary identity.
A little gem! We fell in love with it!
We followed the various development phases from conception to realization... They themselves already told us about it in advance during the live broadcasts of Food Design Stories during quarantine, when, to make up for the absence of our Fuorisalone, we explained how resiliently the designers were continuing to dream.
And Bea and Riccardo never stopped dreaming… they believed in their dream… and with their own hands they made it real.
Now in the old chicken coop adjacent to their splendid country house, where private and professional life are lived in symbiosis with the surrounding nature, Bonver Design continues their self-produced design work.
For Christmas they thought of a bucolic table: the placemats and coasters with eco-cement and natural elements from the “Pope's Coins” collection with the “Lunaria” siliques and seeds, bearers of good luck, and the “Circles in the fields” collection with ground corn embellish the festive table but can also be used all year round, every day, on any occasion.
And again, the “Pannocchia di luce” lamp, from an ancient cereal to an atmospheric light, made using all the elements of the corn cob, from the leaves called bracts and the eco-cement base covered with the beard and grated cob.
Everything is handcrafted with natural and eco-sustainable materials, all self-produced.
What a beautiful bucolic Christmas awaits us!

"Among my childhood memories, there are two in particular: my mother, who was an illustrator, brought home part of her work because here on the farm, where I still live, she could make copies from life of subjects that were commissioned, such as flowers, vegetation and animals. And as she used the "ecoline", the days became colorful... Sunday in particular was always a celebration. My brother, our parents and I started the day with a healthy and delicious country breakfast with milk from our cows, taken directly from the milk churn with the aluminum container and then poured into the old mug with the word "milk" written on it, bread and homemade jam and omelettes made with fresh eggs from our chickens... traditions captured in the setting of the photos taken in which past and present, through the "rice paper cut" tray designed and created by me and Riccardo from BonVer design, merge.
My uncles and cousins would come to visit us for lunch and my mother didn't overlook any detail: from preparing the long table on which she placed a white tablecloth with hand-embroidered flowers, the table setting with my grandmother's white plates and crystal glasses, the chair cushions covered with white and green fabric with floral motifs, to cooking for everyone the typical dishes of the Milanese tradition such as saffron risotto and "elephant ears" breaded cutlets...
Life on the farm allowed for great freedom in contact with nature and animals, and in the afternoons, we children were lucky enough to play, rolling in the hay and building houses with hay bales… these were my first eco-sustainable projects as a young architect… this simple and genuine relationship with nature that I still seek today, as an architect and designer…"

"My love for good food and cooking was born, as often happens, from watching my grandmother and mother cook dishes made with simple gestures.
The amazement and wonder of a child when I went to my maternal grandmother's house and saw her prepare meatballs with the "secret" recipe, or when in the afternoon I studied at the kitchen table and saw my mother preparing homemade pasta with my grandmother's "machine"... and she gave me a little pile to help her cook.
First courses, second courses, desserts… but above all pasta, like the one for lasagna that I remember was hanging out to dry… and then lean ravioli, meat ravioli and tortellini.
Today, like yesterday, making pasta on Sunday morning is a ritual I cherish. I pull out that "machine" that belonged to my grandmother and that my mother gave to me years ago. I prepare the wooden pastry board on which I place the carefully selected flour, because nothing in the kitchen should be left to chance. I also use eggs, but yellow ones, so that the pasta takes on that unmistakable color and aroma.
And then off I go… to “get my hands dirty” kneading… (that gesture I also love when Beatrice from BonVer design and I create objects like the placemat from the “Cannicciato” line, photographed here with the tools of the “trade”) and then, after letting it rest, take it out and roll it out until it is just the right amount of thin and leave to my imagination what types of flan I make… tagliatelle, tagliolini, ravioli which I then season with homemade sauces…
Cuisine is emotion, sensation, passion, love, but above all, tradition… and we Italians are masters at this. In every village you visit, there's a dish and a recipe that tell a story… this is mine…."

At BonVer Design, we believe that difficult times are also a stimulus to renew ourselves, to think, to create something different that we hadn't thought of before... with greater awareness. In this period in which it seems there are no longer any certainties, we draw even more inspiration than we did before from nature, which has given us, is giving us, and will continue to give us so much... creative inspiration to learn from observing flowers, leaves, trees, and insects in their natural splendor, in that small yet important detail that, added to another and another, creates something great... without losing hope, maintaining within us that curiosity and that desire to play, joke, be ironic, and be proactive!
“Troncopendolo” is in fact our new floor lamp made from a recovered birch trunk as a base, iron rods as a structure and a pendulum counterweight made from eco-cement by “Cement Design” attached to a steel wire.
Objects and more... even our project to renovate an old chicken coop, inside the farmhouse where we live, to turn it into our artisan workshop, reflects our philosophy of "rethinking, reinventing, regenerating, reusing", like when we design and create our objects by recovering materials and giving them new life and new functions.
